2024 Report Card
Reef health increased for the first time in five years, mainly due to increased herbivorous fish, although overall health remains "Poor".
2022 Report Card
Less than ten percent of the Mesoamerican Reef coral reef area is fully protected from fishing, with three out of four countries now having critically low grouper and snapper biomass.
2020 Report Card
The 2020 Healthy Reefs Report Card is a collaborative effort of 82 data collectors from 26 organizations of our 73 partners. Most of the 286 sites monitored (46%) now rank poor vs 37% two years earlier. Good sites declined from 13% (2016) to 8% in this Report.
2018 Report Card
Over the past 10 years, we have conducted rigorous science in support of management. Our reliable measures of reef condition allow us to identify the most urgent threats and responses. HRI training workshops continue to strengthen scientific capacity.
2015 Report Card
The overall 2015 Reef Health Index score is ‘Fair’, with encouraging improvements at both the regional level and of individual indicators.
2012 Report Card
The 2012 Report Card highlights three focal sections - existing and emerging threats to reef health; an assessment on the current state of the reef and social context; highlights of reef conservation actions across the region, including the prioritized recommendations to foster healthy reefs and healthy people.
2010 Report Card
The 2010 Report Card highlights three focal sections - an assessment on the current state of the Reef; an update on existing and emerging threats to reef health; and a sample of stories of hope and needed actions to foster healthy reefs and healthy people.
2008 Report Card
This eco-health Report Card is the first comprehensive health assessment of the Mesoamerican Reef Ecosystem. It aims to provide timely, accurate, and reliable information on the condition of the MAR resources and our degree of success at managing them.
