The AGRRA Program advocates for coral reef conservation and supports those dedicated to safeguarding these diverse ecosystems. It is a global partnership of scientists, managers, and supporters focused on enhancing the health of reefs in the Western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, including the Mesoamerican Reef, our valuable natural resource.

For two decades, AGRRA has employed an innovative regional approach to assess the health of reef-building corals, algae, and fish, thereby supporting our goal of coral reef ecosystem conservation. The AGRRA database offers open access to scientific data gathered through our partner network. The AGRRA data portal (Healthy Reefs Initiative - Mesoamerican Reef Data Explorer (arcgis.com)) significantly enhances the efficiency, transparency, and reliability of data collection and analysis. AGRRA data is a key source of scientific data used to collectively create our Mesoamerican Reef Health Report Cards, which serve to inform and improve reef policies, legislation, management, and conservation efforts.

Up to date we have trained over 500 AGRRA surveyors from the 4 Mesoamerican countries of over 70 partner organizations. We have held 20 monitoring training workshops since 2004 and we have now over 580 users in the AGRRA database.
